Churches

It seems that they are very old, but they were built not so long ago. First church – a stone one, was built in 1908 but its architecture refers to the medieval style. The other one dates back to 1910 and its style reminds the baroque style of Tyrolean churches.

Wang Church

The Church is located in the Upper Karpacz, by the main road to Śnieżka [“Na Śnieżkę” Street]. This wooden church is the Evangelical Church of Our Saviour. The medieval church was built in the twelfth century in southern Norway. Thanks to the efforts of Countess Frederica von Reden of Bukowiec, the church was moved to Karpacz. However, it is not a complete reconstruction of the Norwegian building. During the building some elements must have been exchanged and the structure needed to be strengthen against wind.

Wang Church is a monument, dating from the period of Christianization of Norway (11th-13th century).

Worth seeing here are the special arrangement of the church (sheltered galleries), as well as wooden portals of an unusual ornamentation picturing the fights of dragons and the Viking Leaders’ heads. At the rooftops one can notice the dragon heads, which according to the legend come from the bows of the Vikings’ ships.

Next to the church a stone tower was built. There is a small fountain in front of the church. A monument with an epitaph in honour of Countess von Reden (from1856) is placed in the churchyard.
